What is PID Project?

The PID Project demonstrates that there are state-led identification solutions that work more efficiently and effectively to solve multiple identification issues rather than those that are federally mandated and solve only federal issues.  The objective of the PID Project is to enable states to streamline the identification process across departments and agencies to save millions of dollars lost to identity fraud each year, protect the privacy of state residents and reduce administrative and material costs associated with current processes.

Why should my state or commonwealth get involved in the pilot project?

State governors have the opportunity to implement a multi-purpose identification solution that best addresses the issues and needs of their state or commonwealth and one that best protects their residents’ privacy.

The project demonstrates that there are state-led identification solutions that work more efficiently and effectively to solve multiple identification issues rather than those that are federally mandated and solve only federal issues.

How does my state get involved in the pilot project?

A letter of intent signed by the governor is the first step to getting involved in a pilot project. Additional steps are determined on a state by state basis.

Do governors have the option to select which identification issue he or she wants to solve?

Yes. Each state has the flexibility to select the first program or agency to implement PID. Establishing PID as a benchmark for identification in 2011 will provide endless benefits for states and commonwealths in 2012 and beyond while positioning governors to impact policy. Governors can integrate PID to solve identification issues related to the use of E-Verify, Medicaid programs, immigration, first responders, REAL ID, registered sex offenders, missing children, public assistance programs and even state employee identification.

What agency or department is charged with issuing the PID card?

Each state and its selected agency have the flexibility to choose where to distribute PID credentials or PID cards to residents. A PID credential could be issued at state department of motor vehicle locations, agency office(s), city or municipality offices or other locations.

Who is responsible for project management?

Each state and commonwealth will have a dedicated project management team from TASCET. In addition to the project management team, each will select an internal team to help manage the project. Project management costs such as salaries, etc. are covered by project funding.
